Training Course 'We Can'
Training Course “WE CAN” taking action on Hate Speech through Counter and Alternative Narratives took place in Strasbourg, France, in beautiful European Youth Center, during the period 20-24 March, 2017.
The training course developed the competences of youth workers and educators to develop with young people counter and alternative narratives to hate speech. The course objectives included:
- Develop participants’ competences to use counter and alternative narratives to combat hate speech
- Develop participants competences in using manual “ WE CAN”
- Strengthen the campaign response to hate speech through human rights education by integrating the use of counter and alternative narratives
- Increase the use and dissemination of manual “WE CAN” in national campaigns of the No Hate Speech Movement.
Totally 39 leaders from different countries were gathered in Strasbourg to discuss the No Hate Speech Movement Campaign and develop proposals for off-/online initiatives to integrate use of counter and alternative narratives in the European and national campaigns. The leaders have also used the manual “WE CAN” and possibilities for its further development.
Armenia was represented by 2 leaders” Arpine Kostanyan (President of Educational and Cultural Bridges NGO) and Arpine Sahakyan, ( member of the National Committee).
As the President of EC Bridges Arpine Kostanyan mentions:
“All the four working days when very productive and interesting for the leaders. Under the supervision of professional team of trainer, the participants had opportunity not only to enlarge their knowledge about No Hate Speech Movement Campaign, but to learn how to use counter and alternative narratives to combat hate speech. The training course was not only a great opportunity to learn from each other but also to create space for cooperation, networking and peaceful dialogue between members and countries. The training course was organized and implemented on highest level”.
